Melissa Ann Torres, creator of Ann San Diego Soaps, moved to San Diego in 1996, graduated from SDSU in 2001, and soon decided to follow her passion of creating and selling art, in the form of soap! She began selling her soaps and other gifts at craft shows and San Diego farmers markets in Ocean Beach, Chula Vista, downtown, Eastlake, Scripps Ranch, and later in Hillcrest. It was in 2011 that she realized that there was a need for more locally handcrafted souvenirs. That's when Melissa had the idea to create “essences” of San Diego and came up with the themed soaps named after various areas of the city. She decided on the name Ann San Diego, and began selling wholesale to gift shops and has continued to do so while making and packaging all of her soaps at home.
